In addition to being the Director of the Northern Cyclones Hockey program he is the Co Founder of the Flanagan Hockey School and the Total Hockey Institute (THI) . Joe is responsible for player development in the Cyclone program. He manages and oversees all aspects of the youth teams along with teaching skills sessions and working with the coaches.  Joe was a 1988 NHL Draft choice of the Los Angeles Kings. In 1992-93 Joe played for the Birmingham Bulls of the East Coast Hockey League were he won Rookie of the Year honors. That season he also made his International Hockey League debut for the Cincinnati Cyclones. The 1993-94 campaign saw Joe begin the season in the New Jersey Devils training camp, from there he went back to Birmingham and scored 126 points in 62 games and received MVP & Sherwood Player of the Year honors in the ECHL and another stint with the Cyclones for the IHL Playoff run. Joe finished his Professional playing days in 1994-95 with the Worcester Ice Cats of the American Hockey League.  A 1992 Graduate from the University of New Hampshire (Hockey East Div. 1) were he was a full scholarship player and an offensive powerhouse playing for the late Bob Cullen and Current UNH Head Coach Dick Umile. Joe graduated 5th on the All-Time UNH goal scoring list with 85 career goals and in the top ten in all time scoring with 175 points.. In 1988 he tied the Hockey East record with 5 goals in one game and he also held the Hockey East record with 5 hat tricks in a career. He was named to the Hockey East All-Academic team his senior year. Prior to U.N.H., Joe spent 2 seasons at Canterbury Prep School were he collected 214 points and is still the All-Time leading scorer. He also captured 2 Hamilton Tournament MVP awards and was the New England Offensive MVP. Prior to Canterbury, Joe was instrumental in leading Austin Prep High School to the 1986 MIAA State Championship. He was also a member of Team Mass during the Junior Olympics Tournament. Throughout his high school years Joe won numerous awards including, Hockey Night in Boston All-Tournament team and Boston Globe All-Scholastic Selection.
